Punk Rock Bowling: Day 3

Sunday was my longest day with a physical camera. Having not gone to bed until about 5 AM, I started my day at the main festival. Hearing that the pool parties at the new location were more of a headache to get in, seemed a little more sleep was a better idea to prepare. I opened up my day with the only band representing Phoenix on the main stage, the Venomous Pinks. A good amount of support congregated for their set from Phoenix, and then some more. They didn’t seem…

Punk Rock Bowling: Day 2

The first full day of Punk Rock Bowling is Saturday. You have your pool party shows, the main stage, and the club shows. You can find yourself going about fifteen hours a day on these days. For me, this was the settling in day. I ended up out there about three, when Plague Vendor started. With the Punk Rock Bowling write ups, I’m going to probably do more blurbs than my usual writing format. There is a lot of stuff to cover, and of course, some great pictures to check…

The Beginning of Punk Rock Bowling 2017

Punk Rock Bowling is the annual gathering of punks, and some rude boys, for about four days of music. That is not including the occasional Thursday night club show they have started doing in the last couple years. It has grown larger each year, now in three cities including Denver and Asbury Park. Punk Rock Bowling has been my carefree, getting drunk, and moshing around to music vacation four years running now. One of the greatest treats has been seeing friends in local scene and beyond making it to this…

Surprises Abound

Just because I’m heading to Punk Rock Bowling the next day doesn’t mean I’m going to miss some awesome music the night before. It does mean this goes up after though. The night was full of surprises catching bands like the Fighting 48th and Ese for the first time, while bands I already love with We Me Be Wasted and Western Settings. Opening up was a band I didn’t know was comprised of so many awesome musicians from our scene, the Fighting 48th. This includes Jimmy from the Tribulators, Roy…

We Came To Party

Not every show can be described as partying. The party aspect is dictated more by the personalities and the music. This early week show leans heavily on the party with a few dozen new acquaintances and friends’ aspect. From that alone, there is a great enticement to attend a Piñata Protest show. The lineup was the same as the last time they performed at Yucca, and continue to be great choices to be part of this party. First band and change of the night were Whiskey and the Barrels opening…

A Little Bit Rock ‘n Roll, A Little Bit Horror

It isn’t often I see the same out of town band twice within a month. When they leave a great first impression though, of course, you will find me back. Redneck Nosferatu were rolling through town once more, this time at the Yucca Tap Room. They were joined by Buried in Red, Creepsville 666, and the great punk icon, Chip Hanna. Opening up were the fantastic three piece, Buried in Red. This night being my first to capture them closer with a camera, I noticed more about them. Aaron is…

Skankin’ is Back!

Ska revival might actually be going on. As this year trudges on, it certainly feels like the genre is starting to flourish again. From both newcomers and the established greats, I know there have been more ska shows that I’ve attended this year. As my second love, only to Punk, in music, I am enjoying this extraordinarily. Tonight was the return of Viernes 13 to the Yucca Tap Room accompanied by a solid mix of ska and punk. Opening up was the one not skirting the border of the two…
