Listen To Your Heart, Yes

There are times I am just excited the moment I hear a show announcement to the time it occurs. Sometimes it is an artist I love, like a Less than Jake, and sometimes it is one I have yet to see but fell in love with their music. This time around there was a band I discovered in 2020 when I had nothing better to do than watch concert streams and dig into algorithm suggestions. That band was Cheekface. Right after that short exposure, I sought out their Bandcamp, purchased…

Aquadolls and Sitting On Stacy Visit Valley Bar

I’m back on pushing blind discoveries are exactly why you try to make it at the beginning and stay to the very end of a show. If you read my prior M3F coverage, you already know that was a bucket load of seeing rad new musicians for me recently. That is continuing as I came out for the Aquadolls in their co-headlining tour with Sitting On Stacy and their cool openers in Hoity Toity. Both latter bands I’d never seen or heard before. Let me tell you, all of them…

Artist Spotlight: Ratboys

While things are getting postponed or canceled, figured I’d go bring up a band I finally got to see back in October called Ratboys. You may have seen a couple camera shots over on the Psyko Steve Instagram, but I never got around to processing everything I took until now. As a repeated tale from the past two years, they are a band that grabbed my attention over streams. For Ratboys though, it wasn’t just for their music but personality they exude. If I recall correctly, part of that included…

A Visit To Mt. Nerdcore

There are shows that are just a magical coming together of musicians. They have artists that when you list dream shows, you put them together. When it gets announced, it is hard to contain that excitement. The Mt. Nerdcore tour is that magical dream show of artists coming together. For the first time on the West Coast, it brings together four of the biggest names in Nerdcore with MC Lars, Mega Ran, Mc Frontalot, and Schaffer the Darklord plus one local surprise. That surprise was Teek Hall opening up the…

Moving Music

When I entered Friday, I already knew there was a tussle for where I should go watch music. However, when I got the email back that I could take pictures of Skinny Lister and Will Varley, I knew my starting point. These are two bands I fell in love watching when introduced to me through two separate Frank Turner tours. A week prior finding out our local Cockswain had been added as openers and I knew that show was going to deliver. Of course, Valley Bar shows start pretty early…

A Little Taste of Americana

It has been longer than I like to go between posting shows. At the volume I attend, this thing just piles up. Unfortunately, the day job that has funded this for four years has let me go. The past couple weeks have been applying to jobs and getting used to the additional stresses. I want to say an up front apology for the longer delay. With that though, I’m excited to get back on this. The show I left off with was that of Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold, two…

The Celts From Down Under

I love it when I get to throw a band in front of everyone on here that I’ve been aiming for more attention for a while. Tonight was a shorter show with just two bands. Although after getting up earlier for a Dentist appointment, my body was perfectly fine with a shorter night. This show brought us the Rumjacks all the way from Australia, plus our local band of energy, Cockswain. First, this is where I embarrass my drunken judgement skills with a fun St. Patty’s Day story seeing Cockswain.…

The Darts! Snakes! A Birthday!

This was one of those nights with a few music options, but I was looking forward to seeing The Darts in full form. I discovered them through Rikki Styx’s, of the Two Tens and Darts, post on her Instagram. I’d seen the Love Me Nots and Two Tens a couple times just last year, so it seemed a great pairing of music talents. Let’s not forget I had the Two Tens’ last full LP on my favorites of 2016 national list and the Darts’ first EP on the local list.…
