Good Vibes and Good Causes

After a full day of Warped Tour, would you go on to do two days of two shows? Some people may say no. For me, the answer is a yes. This may be how I earned the nickname that spawned this site. Although with it being a Saturday, I got a full night’s rest. I would start over at the Marquee Theatre and end my music adventure between three spaces in the Yucca Tap Room center. Up first was the big reason I was at the Marquee, to watch the…

Sugar, Spice, and a Dash of Punk

What do you do after spending about ten hours out at a Warped Tour in Phoenix? If you’re me, you take the day off to rest and go out to music the next night. Plus given Harper and the Moths are taking time off to put toward a new album, the Real Fits show was on the top of my radar. The night opened on a fantastic touring band, then flowed into great local acts across two air-conditioned venues. That touring act would be Beachwood Coyotes from L.A. These awesome…

Warped Tour: Part Two

Onto part two of the longest time I’ve spent attending a Warped Tour in over a decade of going. This brings with it a band that brought controversy after the Phoenix stop, two bands from across a body of water, and a whole lot of energy across the entire six. This is part two of an amazing day of music and one of the best Warped Tours for me in a few years. Starting off right where I left off in part 1, we come to the Dickies. They are…

Warped Tour: Part One

The amount of times I have gone to Warped Tour over the years is in the double digits. I have never gone for a full day in all these years until today. The triple digits routinely found here are the biggest reasons. However, armed with a photo pass for the first time and a ton of bands I didn’t want to miss, I made sure I was there at open. The only casualty was not glancing at the schedule to find our local girls in Doll Skin were a 1PM…

Present Discoveries

The night before Warped Tour you might think I was preparing my body for one hundred and fifteen degrees. Instead, I was finding some killer music to watch. For this night it was two local bands I love, and a band that is a joint combination of two musical acts I’ve not seen before. Up first were the guys that open anything with a bang, Bear Ghost. I always describe them as if they were the Aquabats, but more rock and no super suits. If Bear Ghost wanted to add…

No Noise Complaints Here

This was a Sunday night I was looking forward to for a bit. It had been about four years since I last caught Big D and the Kids Table. It was a fantastic time hanging with them at the Warped Tour bowling event. In addition to catching their set the next day, I ran into members of the band, like Ben and Derek, around Warped Tour throughout consistently. The interactions just cemented how great these guys and the Big D are. After that I was bugging their drummer Derek every…

Bidding Farewell

The first band interview I did was with Reason Unknown. Scott has been the only drummer I’ve known for that band since I discovered them. The unfortunate side effect of life is that it brings changes regularly. In this case, the Phoenix punk scene is losing a great dude on drums and energetic guy to find in any mosh pit. Scott is moving to Colorado, and this was the last night to enjoy him with Reason Unknown. Becoming Legends had the honor to open up this show. Unfortunately, I missed…

A Summer Birthday

This marks the third birthday show put together by a friend. It was a full punk lineup, varied from the prior two shows. This time it was celebrating Summer’s birthday and she brought out five shining examples of the Phoenix scene. How she managed to stay closer to sober the entire night is the only enigma I have. The first of the music was her boyfriend’s band, Rundown Roommates. These energy filled guys didn’t hold anything back. I’m starting to get used to seeing Freddy behind the drums regularly. He…

The Good Folk

There’s nothing like good folk and acoustic music. Tuesday night was a mix of some I’ve seen before, and some I haven’t, expanding the list of musicians I like. I discovered Ike Fonseca and Ghost in the Willow, and catching the talented Chip Hanna and Leonhardt once again. Opening up was Leonhardt, who from the sound of it was driving back that day to Phoenix. Lucky for us, we got to catch him play a set. He plays with a guitar and drum box like Mr. Mudd and Mr. Gold…

There Was Cake

I know a lot of Gemini that love music. The next of the June birthday shows was for my great friend Tommie. This one was packed full of friends in bands and her boyfriend, Donnie, opening up in We Might Be Wasted. Unfortunately, I was wrapping up the last of the Punk Rock Bowling pictures and arrived late. But knowing Donnie, I’m sure it was awesome. If it included that speedo again, then my eyes were spared something too. Since I arrived late, I ended up starting the night off…
