The Menzingers At A Sold Out Crescent

There is never a set time or age to self-reflect. You can do it at any time when you are collecting your thoughts. To think back on things that have come and adventures that have been. This was especially present in the past two years with the idle time of concerts and activities. Another place that it occurred was when The Menzingers released After the Party, reflecting on their twenties from their thirties. It was an album that hit perfectly for me being in that similar spot and age range…

Noogy Under The Moonlight

D.I.Y., “Do It Yourself”, venues bring out a few of the most creative spots I’ve watched music and a conducive environment for it. Over the years there have been a few that pop up and disappear around Phoenix. More recently we’ve had the Rats Ass and Krusty Palmz. Now the Krusty Palmz legacy moves into Ground Zero, run by the same people. This was the setting for Noogy’s latest visit to the desert with the local Standing at the Back, Ass Wipe Junkies and Rejected Monsters. Up first was one…

Schaffer the Darklord’s Headlining Night

During 2020 and into 2021 musicians performing livestreams were the place where many of our favorite musicians went. They were my go-to for catching music while safely quarantining at home. One of my regular streams was the monthly Four Eyed Horsemen streams. I could always depend on the four staples of it, Schaffer the Darklord, Mega Ran, MC Frontalot, and MC Lars, to perform once a month through that time. They always brought on a guest to open and for one of those was my first time watching and hearing…

Rhythm Room Rocks With Dave Hause and the Mermaid

There are artists that transcend genre. They start in one we love the most or hold dear enough. Though as they grow as musicians they branch further into others. One of those musicians is Dave Hause, who I know from punk rock origins with The Loved Ones and later The Falcon and All Brights. With his solo work, he has branched out further to showcase folk rock skills. This night brought him back to Phoenix with those skills. His band Dave Hause and the Mermaid with the talented Will Hoge…

Aquadolls and Sitting On Stacy Visit Valley Bar

I’m back on pushing blind discoveries are exactly why you try to make it at the beginning and stay to the very end of a show. If you read my prior M3F coverage, you already know that was a bucket load of seeing rad new musicians for me recently. That is continuing as I came out for the Aquadolls in their co-headlining tour with Sitting On Stacy and their cool openers in Hoity Toity. Both latter bands I’d never seen or heard before. Let me tell you, all of them…

M3F 2022: Day Two

With the first day of M3F under my belt, I was more excited going into the second day. I had already discovered so many new to me musicians and bands that it created a bigger anticipation for the second day. The sun was out this time that added warmth and to that feeling that it was going to be a good day.  As for the festival, it did live up to that growing anticipation and the bar set by the day prior. First of the music would be another solid…

M3F 2022: Day One

The now by the name M3F festival has been running since 2004. The three in the name originally coming from McDowell Mountain Music when it started in Scottsdale in view of the McDowell Mountain range. Since then, it has only grown and grown, moving into bigger digs in downtown Phoenix at Margaret T Hance Park. It only made sense for them to remove the direct name of McDowell Mountain and rename to the acronym of M3F. My first attending of the festival was in 2016 where I watched Beck for…

Artist Spotlight: Ratboys

While things are getting postponed or canceled, figured I’d go bring up a band I finally got to see back in October called Ratboys. You may have seen a couple camera shots over on the Psyko Steve Instagram, but I never got around to processing everything I took until now. As a repeated tale from the past two years, they are a band that grabbed my attention over streams. For Ratboys though, it wasn’t just for their music but personality they exude. If I recall correctly, part of that included…

Jeff Rosenstock And Friends At The Crescent Ballroom

There are artists that just invoke positivity. Not only in their performance, but in their day to day interactions and fans they inspire. You find the crowds in front of them are as supporting and happy as the artist they came to watch. Jeff Rosenstock is that kind of musician, regardless of the negative reflection of the world, albeit true, in his lyrics themselves. So throw in vaccination only requirements, to make people feel safe coming out, and the band themselves bringing Slaughter Beach, Dog and Oceanator with them to…

Beach Bunny Back In Town

2020 and part of 2021 gave a lot of time to discover new music you didn’t listen to. Whether it was through the popular livestreams or just randomly going down a “You May Also Like” path, there was more time to dig deeper in. I did just that with one of the prominent ones I found being Beach Bunny. There were, and still are, points I just have them on loop. So when things started coming back and they announced their tour will coming through Phoenix, I was immediately tried…
