Making Twenty Five Look Magical

There are life’s moments that are absolute in needing to celebrate. Moments that show how magical it is when two people come together and over the long stretch continue to show that magic. For two friends, Jason and Marla, this night at the Trunk Space was a celebration of their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. With their love of one another, the festivities brought that together with their love of local music. For the intimate occasion, they invited a few of their local favorites, Wallace Hound, Spicy Mayo, and this mysterious…

Photo Gallery: Overstand at the Beast

Last month I grabbed my camera and ran over to the Beast in Tempe to capture a band called Overstand. The Beast being the nickname for the venue that doubles as Cornish Pasty in Tempe. Overstand is an East Coast Hardcore influenced band made up veterans of the Phoenix punk scene. On lead vocals you got Ben Barnes of Broloaf and Eye Rake more recently. Over on bass, Roy Valencia of way too many to name including Broloaf. Todd Hamilton of Broloaf and North Side Kings over on the guitar.…

Bowling for Soup and Less than Jake Tag Team The Marquee

Epic duos persist throughout pop culture. Rick and Morty, Joker and Harley Quinn, Pinky and the Brain, Jay and Silent Bob, and so many others over the decades. That brings me to the peanut butter and jelly of epic duo tours, Bowling For Soup and Less than Jake. The pop punk and ska punk staples are together for a west side run of the U.S. bringing the awesome pair of Cliff Diver and Doll Skin with them to the Marquee Theatre this past Friday. Up first was a band known…

Listen To Your Heart, Yes

There are times I am just excited the moment I hear a show announcement to the time it occurs. Sometimes it is an artist I love, like a Less than Jake, and sometimes it is one I have yet to see but fell in love with their music. This time around there was a band I discovered in 2020 when I had nothing better to do than watch concert streams and dig into algorithm suggestions. That band was Cheekface. Right after that short exposure, I sought out their Bandcamp, purchased…

A Loaded Night With Frank Turner

I have said it before, but sometimes there are strokes of luck when a few artists come together for a tour. You may call it a super tour by the number of killer acts in one place for one ticket that isn’t a festival. I bring that up because that is just what Frank Turner put together for his epic fifty states in fifty days tour. That is not touching on the big endeavor Frank took on to hit all fifty states in his first post 2020 U.S. tour. The…

Subhumans Return to Rebel Lounge

There are staples of every genre. The bands that are your must see whenever they come to town. They inspire and put on awesome performance after performance with every visit. They are equally bands who have been doing it since the early days of their genre that you look up to. The band I’m talking about that fits the bill here is the Subhumans. This marked their first visit back to the desert since before things shutdown in 2020. With Subhumans, we had local favorites, Skull Drug, to kick off…
