For the Love of the Dogs

Pets are a member of the family. They are taken in and loved like any one of our children, and sometimes are the only children we have. However, there are situations where this is not the case. People who think they have time for taking care of one until the realization they don’t and, in some cases, worse mistreatment lands many of our favorite canine’s in animal shelters. That is where AZ K9 charity comes in, to educate and support adoption of shelter dogs that need a home. In its…

Artist Spotlight: Masked Intruder

Masked Intruder is a band that first appeared on my radar as part of the Fat Wreck tour in 2013. On stage each member adorns a color coordinated ski mask and instrument. All the while, they sing songs about love and crime in a Ramones inspired pop punk. Personality radiates from the stage as they are constantly telling jokes and stories about their criminal escapades. This personality extends to Officer Bradford. He starts off serious looking like their parole officer, but then works to beat on the occasional intruder and…

Photo Gallery: No Lungs, Zero Degrees North, The Jaunts, and Sore Eyes

It was a night of a perfect combination of locals over at 51 West. Sore Eyes opening up with high energy. However, due to illness and down members the Jaunts went acoustic for this set. Then it was back to high energy, high flying as Zero Degrees North and No Lungs closed it out. A fantastic night of local music melting faces. Check out a few of the shots from the night below.

Photo Gallery: 88 Fingers Louie, Decent Criminal, Wewerestereo, and No Gimmick

Last month we had the pleasure of catching 88 Fingers Louie for the first time in years, and first time in general for me, in Phoenix. Joined by Decent Criminal on the tour and the excellent locals Wewerestereo and No Gimmick, this was easily one of my early favorite shows of 2019. While I’ve been busy trying to get the Concerts to Consoles show going, I fell a little behind. Despite that, I wanted to make sure you saw a little bit of this awesome night of music!

Continuing To Surprise

If there was one band to credit for me finding Rockabilly and Psychobilly, it would be Reverend Horton Heat. They were the first band of the genre to grab my attention, in part, due to the humor. The Rock ‘n Roll influences combined only to add to reasons I wanted to listen to more. With that, it should come as no surprise that I aim to always catch Reverend Horton Heat when they visit Phoenix. They brought with them two other special things about this night. One, it would be…

Best of 2018 – Local LP’s

Now we come to the second of two lists, from listening to over 50 local releases. I posted up my 10 favorite local EP’s from that list, and now comes my top 10 favorite full length albums from the Phoenix music scene. 10. Off the Mark – Aging Disgracefully This is another older band making a return, however I had not listened to last they were active. Their first track screams album anthem with the alternating guitar tones to begin. It leads into quality sung and played tracks. The album…

Best of 2018 – Local EP’s

There were so many albums that I listened to in 2018 that I broke them out into two lists for the Locals. On this one you will find my top ten favorite EP’s that Phoenix local bands put out over the course of the year 10. FoL – Therapy Probably was not a surprise to find FoL on this list once again. They only build on the quality of that last album with this one. Seven more great tracks to get stuck in your head. My only sour grapes about…

Artist Spotlight: Snailmate

Continuing on with the artist spotlight feature brings a local Nerdcore duo into the light. This is one you may not see as often locally because they have been doing a lot of trekking around the country since they started. My history with them goes back to when April was drumming in this fantastic blues and soul style band, Sister Lip. When that band ended up calling it quits, a few members went onto new projects with April joining Kalen for Snailmate. In the more than a decade since I…

Didn’t Feel Like A Monday

There are older bands I have not caught in a non-festival setting. These are excellent ones that either they haven’t visited in the time since discovering or I had one of my regular overlaps of music I want to go see in the same night. The Lower Class Brats and Old Firm Casuals are both bands that until recently fit underneath this. A show additionally bringing a Tucson favorite, Thug Riot, and I got introduced to a band I had never heard before, Grade 2. Opening up are the Tucson…
