All In a Afternoon

The old Mason Jar used to do regular afternoon shows for years before it closed. In a nod to the old tradition, the Rebel Lounge that reopened the space as a venue has started it again. This past weekend I took up the opportunity finally check it out. It was a mix of anticipation to see Audrey Heartburn again while watching musicians I haven’t seen perform before with Connor Carmody, Ambient Six, and Corey PA. Opening up was a gentleman I had met before, Corey PA, but I had not…

Sloppy Seconds “Destroyed” Album Review

The more I have delved into punk rock, the more I have found the eighties hold the largest concentration of favorite tracks. It was a time of highly political, the birth of the whimsical, and a rawer sound. It brings me personal favorites that include The Vandals, Dead Kennedys, TSOL, Circle Jerks, Dead Milkmen, and Toy Dolls among others. However, a band I never delved into was Sloppy Seconds. Thanks to D-Tour Records’ reissue of their Destroyed album I started that adventure. Right out of the gate you can see…

Kill Your TV Says Goodbye… For Now

A favorite local band of mine is coming to an end, for now. Not sure how long the break will be. They aren’t stopping on bad terms, just a member escaping to the cooler confines of Flagstaff for college. Hopefully we will see the Kill Your TV’s return down the road. Though for a possible last show, the PPC Estate was the perfect setting and the Kill Your TV performance was a fantastic transition into their break. One thing to spotlight in here is my visit to the intimate PPC…

Erin Micklow and Last Rockers TV Interview

If you have been around the national punk scene in recent years, you have probably spotted Erin Micklow. Either her spiked hair roaming around Punk Rock Bowling, on her YouTube channel, or just with a search of punk social media. The social media bringing out the critics and the praise. I had the pleasure of meeting her briefly at this year’s Punk Rock Bowling. As one working to bring bands to the attention of more, I truly appreciate seeing her work with the Last Rockers TV channel on YouTube. Though,…

The Up and Comers

Sometimes shows are going to be quieter and smaller. They tend to be the ones sitting on a Sunday, although a few big bands buck that trend. You find the gems at these shows. One such occasion is a week ago at the Yucca Tap Room, where we found our punk regulars, Birth of Monsters, joined by the up and coming young punks of Not Confined and the latest acoustic duo of Shamehole. Up first were the familiar faces of Shamehole. This two piece band is made up of Evan,…
