What Punk Rock Bowling Hangover?

What do you do after four days straight of punk rock? Go to more punk rock. Unlike my last three years of Punk Rock Bowling, this Tuesday had two awesome punk shows the night I returned. Over at the Yucca Tap Room, Booze & Glory passing through. Meanwhile, at Time Out Lounge the excellent guys of Lost in Society. I split my time between, catching the two awesome out of town openers at Yucca and made it in time for Lost in Society and Bad Funk at Time Out.

Opening up a night only two hours after getting home was Upstart 33. These guys out of Tucson are fantastic. They have a fast paced, high energy performance from both lead vocalists. They alternate on lyrics and sometimes entire songs. They have few members shared amongst other great Tucson bands, including Bricktop. Upstart 33 were a good reason to make it to Yucca first.

Following them were the great guys from Yuma, Working Mutts. They have ties to another great band out of there, Alleyway Kids. Like them, they play a lively set. Their drummer gets involved on vocals in points of songs too. As the band name suggests, they more of the ‘Oi’ variety of punk making a perfect complement to the bill with Booze and Glory. I’m happy I made it out to catch them while splitting my time between the two shows.

Right in time, I was at the Time Out Lounge to catch the Jersey punk rockers, Lost in Society. It doesn’t take a large stage to show off their performance skills. Animated and full of vigor as they sing, Zach and Nick come off enjoying the music they play. Even on the small stages, Zach leaping at times he doesn’t have to worry about vocals. Given these guys are from the East Coast, I take advantage of every time I’ve been able to see them pass through Phoenix. They put on an excellent performance that makes it enjoyable to come back again and again.

Last up on my six days straight of music, was Bad Funk. They bring a little more rock ‘n roll than punk, but just as much personality and energy as Lost in Society. Their lead vocalist leans into that microphone, and sometimes over it, as he sings. Plus their drummer bringing the personality and conversation between sets just adds to their appeal. There is a great style to their performance. Bad Funk made for a great end to my Tuesday night.
