Expanding On Rockabilly With Tim Polecat
It is a known fact that I love my Punk and Ska at the front most, but I am a lover of many music genres from the Nerdcore to the Folk. My knowledgebase of other genres are where I falter more than that of the first two mentioned above. This is a night that I got to expand on my Rockabilly knowledge, while seeing one of the bigger legends of the genre in Tim Polecat from, well, the Polecats!
This night started off with a brand new band by their words, called When Copper Was King. Their lead vocalist included that the drummer and their guitarist had just got in one to two practices to fill in before this show. That only made their set more awesome to watch with lesser expectations. While a traditional Rockabilly set, it included a cover of a Johnny Horton song. Their fill in guitarist was one of the best I saw play this night. The entire set got the crowd excited enough to start the trend of one more song on each bands’ sets at this show.
Limit Club was the quantity I know and love to watch every time. These guys have a punk vibe, but are excellent Rockabilly/Psychobilly. Sometimes they grace the stage with white make up, and sometimes they relax it like tonight seeing their true faces. The Limit Club is a super talented group, including Monty who manages to juggle both guitar and Saxophone through the set. Not to mention they probably have the best hair as a band too. A good set from them, with, yes, another encore song on the end of their set.
Finally we come to Tim Polecat, of the Polecats, and of the Tim Polecats Trio tonight. This is where I’m seeing one of the most energized and all over the stage musicians of the night, but additionally one of the men who has been doing Rockabilly for a couple decades. Joined by both Nick from Limit Club, and Aaron from Manual Sex Drive, they performed a bunch of music I was hearing for the first time tonight from Tim’s vast music past. I loved every moment, and Tim is a great musician to watch on stage if you can get the chance! Oh, and these guys did an encore to too. Three encores from all three bands for a great night of Rockabilly.
