Photo Gallery: Le Tour DeVore 5

I’m back to going through photos from my backlog. This time going to January to the Le Tour DeVore. Jason DeVore, of Authority Zero, brought through a star studded cast of Howi Spangler, of Ballyhoo, Chris DeMakes, of Less than Jake, Gabo, of Fayuca, and Russ and Chris, of Meager Kings to the Yucca Tap Room. The tour entirely acoustic, giving people the opportunity to see these guys play their band’s songs and their own. That included an early peak at Chris’s first solo project live. Getting the chance to…

Holiday Traditions

Around the end of the year there are usually a few traditions that everyone tends to have. A lot of those tend to revolve around various holidays that come together around the end of the year. A lot are wonderful and usually a few can have those familiar family frustrations. However, there is the Authority Zero tradition that may not always land on New Year’s Eve, but it always close to it. Continuing a solid streak of bolstering the lineup with fantastic locals, the bill included ZeeCeeKeely, Black Mountain Moonshine,…

Playing To Their Fans

Album releases tend to fit into a certain mold. They usually involve getting together with a band’s friends and playing all the new stuff off of that album. Although in this case, circumstances changed that. We found ourselves with an entire locals showcase to celebrate the new Authority Zero album. This night there was a familiar cast in front of them with Torn at the Seam, Nomada, Madd Dog Tannen, and Good Boy Daisy. This genre spreading cast did a superb job to lead up to one of my favorite…

Go With The Flow

There is a lot of new music hitting my ears weekly these days. Perhaps it is the exponential growth of bands I follow or just the coincidental concentration of bands releasing new music. With that comes the album release shows. It is a get together of musicians and a few of their favorite musical friends to celebrate their latest lyrical creations. This time around a few guys I’ve been watching since I was a teenager were celebrating their latest music, NEATO, with a few of their favorite friends. The show…

The Skaters and the Punks

There are conventions popping up for plenty of hobbies and fascinations. The most popularized model is the comic and pop culture convention. Furthermore, it is inspiring fans of other hobbies to organize conventions and gatherings for their favorite hobbies. One of the newer ones to pop up is the Phoenix Skatercon. A convention built around the skater culture, from skills to punk rock. The music brought excellent acts from Since We Were Kids to D.I. However, this whole convention is one that exceeded my expectations. In its third year, this…

Therapy For the Speed Bumps

Life likes to challenge your ability to do what you love. The ones you stick with through the hard parts are the things you tend to care for the most. I suppose that is part of the challenge. Life wants to tell you that the only way to survive is paying the bills and doing the job to that end. I ask where the fun in that is. What fun would life be if you were to be part of the status quo? If you only have one life to…

The Overlapping Tastes

If you told me there would be a tour with Reverend Horton Heat, Fishbone, and Strung Out on it, I would have given you an askew response. I think highly of all three bands, but together on one stage I wouldn’t imagine. However, it makes complete sense after a little thought. There are a bunch of crossover fans from the three genres of punk, ska, and rockabilly. With that, we got fantastic performances plus a great surprise in the opening Los Kung Fu Monkeys. Entering the show I had a…

Good Vibes and Good Causes

After a full day of Warped Tour, would you go on to do two days of two shows? Some people may say no. For me, the answer is a yes. This may be how I earned the nickname that spawned this site. Although with it being a Saturday, I got a full night’s rest. I would start over at the Marquee Theatre and end my music adventure between three spaces in the Yucca Tap Room center. Up first was the big reason I was at the Marquee, to watch the…

A Broadcast of Passion

“Broadcasting to the Nations” marks the six album release from Authority Zero on a label. Including prior independent releases that puts the notch up to eight. This marks nearly two decades of music from one of the few punk bands to come out of Phoenix with a following across the world. This release show brought one of my favorite punk bands, Guttermouth, to town alongside four local openers with more of a reggae and rock leaning. The first of the night’s lineup was Howard Til Midnight. These guys were the…
