Far From Half Baked

Tonight was a favorite pair of local bands. Both times I have seen Dent, it was with Twin Ponies. They are a great compliment to each other. Tonight I could boost that to say that all three bands, including Baked, were awesome together. They made for a fantastic night of music at the Rebel Lounge.

Up first were the awesome guys of Dent. This was my first time seeing them without the projector of fun imagery. They didn’t need it, bringing a good rock and alternative blend to the stage. Josh powered through the discomfort from his Taco Bell, which he told to the crowd followed by an old McDonalds tune hum. Humor a part of their charm too. That was a good set from Dent again.

Smack dab in the middle was the other part of this dynamic duo of bands, Twin Ponies. They are a little more rocking of the pair, but certainly in that atmospheric alternative sound too. The highlight of every time I’ve seen Twin Ponies, however, has to be watching that joyous smile and jumping around on Jacob. He loves what he does up there. Not to discount the rest, as they all move a bit too and Wayne gets a little more intense up there as he sings and plays. I love watching both these bands when I can catch them.

But wait, that’s not all, as Baked were freaking cool. They gave me an Indie Rock vibe up there, like the Strokes, but other songs that were more that alternative rock of our locals. They come to that stage with energy, wanting to play, from their super animated drummer, A.J., to their awesome lead singer at a point playing guitar from his knees.

There was a cool moment where they invited Jacob up to play with them at the end, who, of course, was excited. All things combined, Baked were excellent and I hope to see them next time they come through Phoenix.
