What’s R and R When There’s Music Nearby?

Living closer to one of my favorite venues to visit is a luxury. Although when you go to it after your first day of moving things, may not always be the best for your energy. Regardless, I was going to take in some music after being deprived of it while I was busy packing most of the prior week. I mean, it was a quick trip from the new place. It entailed hearing three genres of music in one night too, with the Phenomenauts being a mix of a couple by themselves.

First up we had our awesome surf rockers from the Surfside IV. These guys are no vocals, and all instrumentals. They are entertaining about it too. Their sense of humor was shown off with things like informing the audience the next song was a sing along, and retracting it because they don’t have any vocals. While part of this set was spent from a barstool to keep my sore feet resting, the Surfside IV is excellent to watch.

The second genre of the night was Ska with Mr. Incommunicado, or Mr. I for short. This was the part of the night that I did want to dance to that 2 Tone beat, and it felt like it was making my feet feel better. I love watching this band because they like to skank and move when they perform. It is infectious as I wasn’t alone in front of the stage skanking. Mr. Incommunicado have a great sound and an entertaining stage presence that keeps me wanting to catch them time and time again.

Last up was the guys who travel space as a rock ‘n roll band, the Phenomenauts. There is no lack of presentation with their set every time. From the countdown blast of dry ice into the air to begin to the twirling and laser lights piercing the fog on stage, it is fantastic. Their music spans a couple genre sounds, I usually group them into rock the most. These were the guys I made sure to push myself to catch before catching some rest for day two of moving. I don’t regret a thing, and always happy to see the Phenomenauts play Phoenix whenever they can.
